These lovely peach roses were a gift from my husband and son for Mother’s Day this year. They kept their vigor for a very long time. Which thankfully gave me an opportunity to “document” them in this painting. The colors that make up these peach roses are extremely nuanced and more complicated than at first glance, ranging from pale flesh tones to dark burgundies and purple jewel tones in the shadows.

I chose to paint this painting on Arches Oil Paper. There are areas that are more fully rendered and areas that are more implied. This kind of dance between these two disparate elements really excites me in a painting.
