When Memory Fades (What Was That Shade of Pink?) $510

I painted these Azalea blossoms over the course of a couple days. During that time the blossoms began to fade (as they do) and I would alter my composition to reflect that change I saw before me in an attempt to describe this beautiful cycle of life. The transience of memories and the transience of life have a similar resonance in my mind.

The title for this painting— which I think perfectly describes this connection between memory and life— was inspired by a poem by Michael Berman entitled “Azalea”:

“Yet my memory fades

and I can’t even recall

that subtle twist of your fresh limbs

and what was that shade of pink”

ABOUT THIS PAINTING
