I painted the blooms of my amaryllis many times this past Winter, this painting was the grandest of all the compositions. I love the contrast of the Persian rug behind the flowers and the subtle Scarlet, White, Terra Cotta and Burgundy palette. I enjoyed allowing the abstraction of my “block in” to stay, balanced by the rendering of the other flowers and how the red flowers slyly emerge from the background.
