I painted this gentleman’s portrait from life in 2013. This listing is for a Giclee print of the original portrait. I remember him recalling in detail how he had made his headdress himself in the traditional Crow way. I have always had a great admiration for the cultures of the First Peoples of our Nation. My first painting teacher was married to a Comanche person and I would take my lessons in their home as a child. On his birthday one year he came home from work and handed out presents to all his family members. The occasion? It was his birthday and that was the traditional way of celebrating a birthday among the Comanche people. I remember being so moved by the unselfish thought behind the gesture that the lesson still lives with me today. It seemed such a wonderful counter view to our Western culture.

The original is in a Private Collection. I am now offering a limited edition (unmatted and unframed) Giclee print of of it.
