Original Unmatted "Los Plátanos De Cuba" Etching, Umber print $75
In 2000 I had the honor of being invited to stay with our American Ambassador to Cuba, Ambassador Huddleston, to see my painting “Juventud” hanging in the “Cuban-American Art 2000” exhibit at the United States Interests Section in Havana, Cuba. I stayed at her personal residence which still housed the original elevator used by FDR. I spent my time there exploring locations around Havana related to my personal family history, discovering my roots in person. It was an extremely moving experience that helped realign my perception of myself.
One day while exploring the gardens at the Ambassador’s residence, I came across this banana tree laden with fruit and took references of it. I later used the reference to create the etching you see here and gifted the Ambassador a print as my thank you for this unforgettable trip. The etching available is the 11th of 18 from a limited edition print run.
ABOUT THIS PRINT
What is an Etching?
Etching is a printing process using metal plates associated closely with the Old Masters such as Rembrandt. . It is sometimes called intaglio, which means the inked lines on the paper come from lines that lie below the surface of the plate. To create an etching, an artist draws an image on a waxed copper plate which is later bathed in acid to permanently inscribe the image. The artist then inks the plate every time they pull a print. Each print will be unique due to many variables including color, application of ink and pressure. Thus each print is considered an original work of art.
Original umber colored 7.5” x 11” unmatted etching. Limited edition of 18 prints. This is the 6th pulled of 18.
